1440p is a resolution that often is used on computer monitors. Since game consoles like Xbox Series S and Xbox One support 1440p resolution and many users use TV as a PC monitor, it's important to figure out what it is and to know how to choose a TV or monitor.

1. What is 1440p? Is 2k stand for 1440p?

1440p is a video display resolution that has a vertical resolution of 1440 pixels.

Here's the 1440p comparison
ResolutionDisplay aspect ratioMegapixels
5120 × 14403.5:1 (32:9)
7.37
3440 × 14402.38:1 (43:18)
4.95
3200 × 14402.2:1 (20:9)
4.61
3120 × 14402.16:1 (39:18)
4.49
3040 × 14402.1:1 (19:9)
4.38
2960 × 14402.05:1 (37:18)
4.2699
2880 × 14402:1 (18:9)
4.15
2560 × 14401.7:1 (16:9)
3.69
2304 × 14401.6:1 (16:10)
3.32
2160 × 14401.5:1 (3:2)
3.11
1920 × 14401.3:1 (4:3)
2.76

And 2k is 1920x1080, so 2k=1440p is definitely wrong.

2. Why is there no 1440p TV?

2560x1440 does not have a particularly suitable application area, and there is no killer app to support this standard. So it is clear that there is no need to endorse this standard for TV screens. Another more important thing is that the video source itself is only 2k and 4k. It is almost impossible to find 1440p video sources, which makes the value of 4k much greater than 1440p, and it becomes meaningless to do 1440p TV screens.

Technically speaking 4K means 4096x2160, the standard for the movie industry. The standard in television is called UHD, and the standard resolution is 3840x2160. FHD is 1920x1080 pixels, which is the HDTV standard. However, 2560x1440 is a little higher than FHD, but not good than 4k, so it's not necessary to develop 1400p TV.

3. Why PS5 does not support 1440p?

After the above explanation, I believe that you'll understand why ps5 does not support 1440p resolution. The main reason is that the TV is Sony PS5's highest priority device, after all, there is no TV that natively supports 1440P resolution.

4. 1440p or 4k? Which is better?

Since 4k is 4096x2160, more than twice the number of pixels of 1440p, then why does everybody choose a 1440p monitor over a 4k monitor?

In fact, we can't generalize which one is better because it depends on your usage. 4k monitors definitely provide better image quality, so for photo or video editing, high resolution is definitely better.

However, in some cases, 1440p has its own advantages:

🔹The high resolution of 4k doesn't show up on a small monitor(like 23-27''), so you will need a large monitor, which is unaffordable for many people.

🔹 For playing games, there are some 1440p displays that have 144 Hz (for very smooth frame rates), but 4K displays all limit you to 60 frames per second. 4K will halve the frame rate, which has an impact on performance.
