Among the projectors offered by Epson, the Epson HC1060 is an interesting model. There are models with more contrast, laser lighting, 4K as well as ultra short focal length. The Epson HC1060 is not intended for image specialists of the latest developments around the Ultra HD image. It is difficult to compare it as such with other much better equipped products. However, Epson did not save on equipment, this device has everything you need to not be frustrated out of the box.

The small affordable projector still has a say in the face of increasingly larger and necessarily more bulky televisions. It makes it possible to obtain very large images on a white wall or, better still, on a projection screen. Installed permanently on the ceiling or stored in a cupboard after each cinema session, Epson HC1060 allows you to immerse yourself without cluttering up. Epson HC1060's technologies are not the most recent, of course, but we will easily do without the very low price displayed on the label.

Even if Epson HC1060 is available only in white is part of the Epson home cinema range, it retains all the characteristic connectors of models dedicated to office uses. In fact, alongside the HDMI inputs, it sports a composite RCA socket and a VGA geared more towards computers, just like the USB ports. The Epson HC1060 also benefits from Wi-Fi4 and in this case acts as an access point to which content to be displayed can be transmitted.

All the controls are placed on top with lots of little buttons accompanied by inscriptions and icons. It is therefore easy to take hold of the video projector and fully adjust it without the need for the remote control. The latter will always be practical once installed in the sofa to modify any attributes of the image. The zoom and focus settings are manual and placed just above the lens. It may seem retro, but it is ultimately very practical: in a few seconds, the image is clear and the right size.

The Epson HC1060 is a tri-LCD model allowing to dispense with the rainbows seen with competing DLP technology. It has a Full HD 1920x1080 matrix. With 3100 lumens in standard mode or 1925 lumens in eco mode, the brightness is already comfortable. The contrast is fairly average: 15,000: 1. The 210 Watt lamp can hold up to 7,500 hours, or one film per night for 11 years. The lamp can be replaced for less than 100 bucks, which is good news.

The installation of this 30 cm by 25 cm device is simple. A mechanical stand unfolds at the front of the projector to raise the image if you place it on a coffee table. In this case, the geometric correction is automatic so that the image remains square. The horizontal geometry adjustment is manual; it is carried out from the menus. Depending on the distance, you can obtain an image measuring up to 7.6 m diagonal. You have room to fill the living room wall.

Epson HC1060 Projector: Big cinema in the living room

The image delivered by the Epson HC1060 is clearly bright. Projected on a white wall or a screen and without direct sun, it is not even necessary to close the shutters to enjoy it - even if the rendering will always be better after dark. The default high light mode is too noisy, we recommend the eco mode whose brightness is sufficient, although the fan is still quite present despite everything.

By default, the whites are burnt, it is necessary to calm them by passing for example to the cinema mode. Softer, the image becomes very pleasant to enjoy your cinema session. The only insoluble problem concerns the not really black black bars, but at this price level, you can't ask for the moon from the Epson HC1060.
