For some time, Facebook and Oculus have been working hard to create thinner, more comfortable VR headset devices. Facebook recently showed the outside world a slim VR (virtual reality) concept glasses, the appearance is like sunglasses.

Current VR devices are still relatively "cumbersome", and people will feel very uncomfortable when wearing them for a long time. As shown in the picture, the concept glasses displayed by Facebook are very thin and light.

Facebook introduced that the glasses use holographic optics and other technologies, and the lens thickness is less than 9 mm . However, it should be noted that this is just a concept glasses. Facebook also said that their current work is purely research-oriented.

Now that their latest experiment is one step further to an ideal state, Facebook’s Reality Lab has developed a proof-of-concept device that uses holographic graphics and flat films as optical components, making the display thickness less than 0.35 inches, which is better than Glass-emitting LCDs or OLEDs. This is due in part to polarization-based optical folding, which can move the light back and forth multiple times, making the device much smaller than before.

Of course, the current prototype device is still very rough and far away from the finished product. In addition to color output, Facebook must also solve battery life, device connection and compatibility issues with ordinary glasses. However, once the product is truly mature, the use of VR glasses may be greatly increased, which is of great significance for gaming and professional use.
