Inheritance

The 2020 thriller 'Inheritance,' directed by Vaughn Stein and starring Lily Collins and Simon Pegg. Lauren Monroe, played by lily Collins, is a high-class girl who wants to escape the family spotlight, first as a district attorney and then, against her father's wishes, as a public defender. One day, his father died suddenly, leaving his brother a large inheritance, but leaving her a small amount of cash, a portable disc and a key, and asked her to take the family secret to the grave.

Following a clue from her father, Lauren opens the backyard cellar and discovers that a man calling himself Morgan lives there. Morgan begs Lauren to give him his freedom, and in order to win her trust, he talks about the inside story of the Monroe family's political and business collusion, as well as Lauren's father's sexual history. But can Morgan's claims be trusted? Or is there a bigger conspiracy behind it?

Simon Pegg

Simon Pegg overturns his image

Simon Pegg is known for his comic characters, especially his impressive role as Tom cruise's sidekick in the Mission: Impossible movies, and his old, wacky, timid character in Hector and the Search for Happiness. For the drama into brawn, Morgan interpretation is locked in the cellar for 30 years, not only appearance change is big, also lived in a pretend to collapse and cowardice, but layout criminals for many years, from the first let people convinced by his desire for freedom, don't want to trouble and external fact Monroe a ugly, but to a sudden, show the violent nature, since the film's breakthrough performance.

Conscience and law are interesting

Lily Collins in the film as a can calm down to deal with business, in the face of the family but angry unbearable lawyer, although the thin appearance, but the courage to take over the task of the father. A she and Morgan, play chess, imposing manner is better than people, don't want to listen to Morgan crap, legal expertise questioned Morgan, get rid of the past play Snow White gives the impression of, success trying to interpret a rebellious daughter is not the same as his father's way, talk about law, conscience, imperceptible but troubled, had to take out the blood of the vicious.

Using the technique of tight editing, the film shows Lauren on the verge of breaking down, from washing her hands to rummaging through her father's belongings. It shows a daughter who is not recognized as demanding and responsible, especially when her younger brother is trying to win re-election to the senate and refuses to expose the family scandal. Lauren's dilemma between legal justice and conscience is the most interesting part of the plot, and the audience may ask what to do in the same situation.

The film could have been the reasoning of the drama film, it is a pity that only stay in the thriller. From the gloom of the cellar, to Morgan's murmuring, to the way the pie was made, Lauren was worried about what the man calling himself Morgan was selling. The author must say that although the outcome was expected, when Simon pegg revealed his true face, he still frightened me, not because of his meticulous layout, but because of his long accumulation of revenge, an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, treatment of women is not soft, subverting the film at the beginning of the ineffable look.

There are a lot of subplots that can be used in the movie, such as Lauren's father's affair, Lauren's husband and daughter, and even the muckraking media. It is a pity that the screenwriter did not further develop the cabling, bringing the thriller to the extreme, or the arrangement of multi-point reasoning and breaking the scandal. In addition, the author must quip that Lauren, who has a lot of police resources, was careless to listen to Morgan before the police could verify his identity.
