According to the recent media reports, an Apple patent application document was released by the US Patent and Trademark Office this week, Apple is exploring a new Apple Pencil technology that allows the device to sample colors from the real world and then be used in digital art, drawing, editing and other scenes.

New Apple Pencil may extract colors from the real world

The New Apple Pencil patent titled "Computer System With Color Sampling Stylus" describes a computer pen that may have a color sensor.

This color sensor will be equipped with several photodetectors that can measure the light of different color channels, which will enable it to detect a certain color from a real-world object and sample it. At the same time, the stylus can also be equipped with a light source to allow the photodetector to determine the color more accurately.

Apple said that the color sensor function can be installed on the end of the stylus, the pen tip, or connected to the pen tip through a light guide.

With this technical blessing, new Apple Pencil‌ users will be able to use it for realistic painting, or just sample unique colors from grass, plants, existing art, and so on.

According to the description of the new Apple Pencil patent document, the stylus will detect the color and put it into the palette of the drawing program, and then assign the color to the brush. In addition, Apple also indicated that the color sensor may also be used for other purposes, such as calibrating displays, calibrating printers, health-related testing, and determining colors for home projectors. However, no one can guarantee that Apple will eventually put this technology into new Apple Pencil .
