The new Google Chromecast Ultra, due out this year, will be based on Android TV and come with a programmable remote control.

Google launched its own TV box, the Chromecast Ultra, in 2016. The device supports 4K and is licensed by Dolby Vision to play higher-quality HDR pictures on monitors that support Dolby Vision. But to this day, there is still no follow-up product.

Google is planning a second-generation Chromecast Ultra this year, which will be based on Android TV and include a remote control as an add-on device. The remote has a built-in microphone, and users can control the Chromecast using Google Assistant. Interestingly, the remote also supports programming.

The new Chromecast Ultra will have a similar design to the third-generation Chromecast. The internal code name of the device is "Sabrina". 4K HDR support and regular Chromecast Bluetooth and wi-fi connectivity.

The new device was supposed to be unveiled with Pixel 4a at Google I/O 2020, but with the cancellation of Google I/O 2020, the release date will be delayed. The release date was not immediately available.
