According to the latest "Reaching Today's Video Audiences: Streaming media Platform Diversity" by global analyst firm Parks Associates, nearly 70% of households in the United States currently own at least one streaming device connected to the Internet. About 56 percent of U.S. broadband households now own a smart TV, with more than half using a smart TV as their primary device for streaming video.

As of now, the number of streaming subscribers in the United States has exceeded the total population of the United States to reach 340 million. More than 82 percent of broadband households have at least one streaming service, and 49 percent have four or more. That said, 72% of U.S. broadband households are participating in streaming video viewing on multiple platforms, and 40% are watching on all streaming platforms available to them.

As service usage in the U.S. streaming video market continues to increase, consumers watch streaming video content on multiple devices in the home, and increasingly from multiple services. The role of cross-platform streaming video in consumers' entertainment mix is more important than ever.

In the U.S., mobile phones remain the primary device people use to consume streaming content. However, the usage time of streaming TV is increasing rapidly, and the "connected living room" of streaming media + large screen has become very common.

Statistics show that Americans watch nearly 10 billion hours of streaming each month on connected TV devices such as Roku, Amazon Fire TV and Apple TV.
The streaming giant's Roku devices accounted for 44% of all connected TV viewing time;

Amazon's Fire set-top box came in second with 20 percent.

Compared with Google's Google TV and Apple's Apple TV, streaming media devices that aggregate a large number of streaming media applications and can span multiple streaming media platforms are more favored by consumers.
