Recently, Digital TV Research released the U.S. OTT TV and Video Forecast Report. The report shows that the total number of streaming subscriptions in the US will climb from 354 million at the end of 2021 to 458 million in 2027, driven by the arrival of streamers such as Paramount+, HBO Max, Peacock and Discovery+.

By 2027, approximately 86% of U.S. TV households will subscribe to at least one SVOD platform. The average U.S. TV household will subscribe to 4.37 streaming services over the next five years. The biggest of these growth will come from new streaming platforms. Netflix is expected to add just 2 million subscribers over the period (to 69.1 million), Disney+ 12 million, Paramount+ 26 million, and HBO Max 31 million.

The report also predicts that by 2027, U.S. pay-TV subscribers will reach 60 million, down from a peak of 105 million in 2010, and pay-TV penetration will fall below 50 percent. The number of households without pay-TV subscriptions will soar from 11.34 million in 2010 to 72.86 million in 2027, largely as more households switch to streaming services.
