On May 18, Samsung officially launched 2020 QLED series TV products in China, and then it turned its attention to micro LED TV. According to media reports, the president of Samsung's display department announced at CES 2020 that in the second half of this year, Samsung is expected to release ultra high price TV products worth hundreds of millions of won, including micro LED TV products, including household sizes: 75, 88, 93 and 110 inches, as well as 150 inch and 292 inch models.

In order to compete with OLED of LG camp, Samsung announced the official mass production of micro LED panel at the end of 2018, and launched micro LED display technology products.

Why Samsung turned its attention from VR to micro LED TV?

As early as 2018, Samsung released the first 146 inch micro LED TV - "the wall". This micro LED TV uses 24 million micro led particles and is fixed to the glass back plate. Then, in 2019, it launched a 75 inch home micro LED TV with a picture quality resolution of 4K. Of course, the prices of the two are quite high.

Micro LED is the next generation of display technology that the industry is looking forward to. In terms of display effect, micro LED's light-emitting principle is similar to OLED's, which is also through self illumination imaging. However, the core advantages of micro LED are brightness, life, and response speed. In addition, it also has high resolution, low power consumption, high contrast, thin thickness and other characteristics. Its power consumption can be as low as 10% of LCD and 50% of OLED.

At present, including apple, Samsung, LG display and other manufacturers are busy in the layout of micro LED display technology, and apple is constantly working in the field of micro LED.

Other sources pointed out that Samsung announced that it would completely terminate its XR services, including 360 degree video and audio content, on September 30. In addition, Samsung also removed the VR video software, indicating that Samsung would completely withdraw from the VR business.
