How to increase storage space on Xbox Series X? With a memory card!

The internal storage space of the Xbox Series X console is 1TB, just like the majority of Xbox One and PS5 today. We could have imagined that this one is superior to current consoles but the SSD is expensive, and a 2TB SSD would have made the price of the Xbox Series X go up a lot, still unknown.

This card is not compulsory, but will allow very fast loading of your content with this additional storage.

A port located at the back of the console will therefore allow you to insert a 1TB memory card for storage strictly identical to that which is inside the console. This is a card to be inserted into the PCI Express 4.0 port located at the back of the Xbox Series X. The card available in the photo is that of Seagate, Microsoft's partner on this additional storage card.

This card is not compulsory, but will allow very fast loading of your content with this additional storage. The storage solution via USB external hard drive will only work for Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Xbox Original games. Games optimized for Xbox Series X should be on internal SSD storage or external SSD card.

What's new with the Xbox Series X controller?

The Xbox Series X controller is new. It will be slightly smaller than the controller we know today, so that the hands can cover it more. We go from 95% to 98% coverage with this new controller.

In addition to its design which takes the usual codes of Xbox controllers, we notice that the rear triggers now have a grip, to slip less under the fingers. A new dedicated share button has also been added to the middle of the Xbox Series X controller to make it easier to capture screenshots and game clips. Finally, the directional pad has been changed and now resumes what was done on the Xbox Elite Series 2 controller. The controller will still run on batteries.

There are some things we learned from making the Elite controller and listening to the fans. One of them is on the D-pad, we have a new hybrid D-pad that we've been working on because we think it's important.
This new Xbox controller will be compatible with Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs. It will be part of the Xbox Series X pack when it is released.

When is the Xbox Series X released?

The Xbox Series X will be released at the end of 2020, and probably in November or December 2020. The exact availability of the console has yet to be defined but the latest Xboxes were released in November. Microsoft cannot miss the end of the year holidays with Black Friday, Thanksgiving and the Christmas period which are great moments of consumption.

The month of December 2020 was indicated by Xbox UK in person, on the official Microsoft store before being denied a little later.

"The Coronavirus does not affect the release of the Xbox Series X, still scheduled for the end of 2020."

This new generation of Xbox will be released 7 years after the previous one, the Xbox One, released in 2013. 2020 will not only be the year of release of the Xbox Series X, but also that of Sony's Playstation 5. Both consoles should be released at the same time, within a few weeks or days.

Microsoft has confirmed that global events related to the Coronavirus pandemic are not affecting the release of the new Xbox and that console availability in late 2020 is maintained.

What price for the Xbox Series X?
The price of the Xbox Series X is not yet known but everything suggests that it will be announced in August. If we refer to the latest consoles released on the market, the price of the Xbox Series X will be around 500 €. An analyst has indicated that Microsoft has the ability to drastically reduce the price of its console if it wants to drop to $ 400, but that seems unlikely.

Phil Spencer, boss of the Xbox division, once said price is a big part of a console. He confirmed that Xbox teams already had a price in mind for the Xbox Series X and would do anything to meet it by speculating on component prices in 2020. The Xbox One was overpriced with Kinect and Phil Spencer won't make the same mistake with the Series X.

If you remember the Xbox One launch, our console was $ 100 more expensive and less powerful; it will not happen again. There is no doubt about it. I'm not going to sacrifice horsepower for the price.
The Xbox Series X and PS5 are therefore expected to be released at a similar price, similar power, and at a similar time frame. The functionalities of the machine and the games will therefore make the difference.

What games are planned for Xbox Series X?

For the moment, Microsoft remains very discreet on the launch games of the new console. But we can nevertheless ensure the arrival of Halo Infinite during the launch period of the console, since Microsoft has long confirmed it.

The second game announced for Xbox Series X is Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 , the sequel to the critically acclaimed debut installment. A pretty impressive trailer running with the game's engine has already been presented. The game will be eagerly awaited and will arrive as soon as it is released (still unknown) in Xbox Game Pass .

During the Xbox Games Showcase in July, Xbox announced a series of new games for the Xbox Series X and the PC. The famous Fable has thus been officially confirmed.

Here are games confirmed for Xbox Series X
  • Halo Infinite (343 Industries SPF)
  • Forza Motorsport 8 (Turn10 Racing Game)
  • Fable (Playground Games RPG)
  • Everwild (Rare Adventure Game)
  • State of Decay 3 (Undead Labs Survival Game)
  • Avowed (Obsidian RPG)
  • First game from The Initiative studio (Definitely an action / adventure game)
  • Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 (Ninja Theory)
  • The Medium (Horror Game by Bloober Team)
Of course, with the recent studio acquisitions by Microsoft , more games are in development for future consoles, and we're sure to get more Microsoft-made games on the next-gen Xbox than ever before.

Full backward compatibility confirmed on Xbox Series X!

In addition to the new games currently in development for Xbox Series X, one of the arguments that may well appeal to gamers is that their entire catalog of Xbox One games will be compatible with the new Xbox, as well as the games. Xbox and Xbox 360 already playable on Xbox One.

From its launch, the Xbox Series X will therefore benefit from thousands of Xbox games available.
Phil Spencer has already said several times that there is no reason to have to change the game when changing machines, and that continuity must be ensured. It's the same pattern as what has been around on mobile for a very long time.

Better, current games should be smoother and prettier on the future Xbox. We have already demonstrated this with the Xbox One X which makes old games look better . Imagine launching Gears 5 on Xbox Series X and benefiting from new visual effects or increased fluidity, it is entirely possible and the developers of Ori and the Will of the Wisps are already talking about an update to make the game run. 120fps in Xbox X Series .

Buying a new console and immediately benefiting from its current game library without having to buy new games is a good argument for taking the plunge and acquiring new equipment. Thousands of current games will be able to be used on Xbox Series X from its launch.

Especially since all existing Xbox One accessories will also work on the new Xbox Series X.

Will xCloud be available on Xbox Series X?

xCloud is a feature that allows you to play your Xbox games on a mobile device from the Microsoft cloud. The company has confirmed that the Xbox Series X was designed with the cloud in mind, but information on this is still too vague. On the other hand, it is certain that Microsoft's cloud gaming games will run on Xbox Series X.

Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S two consoles for more choice?

We're talking about two new Xboxes since E3 2018, or at least the weeks that followed. It was Brad Sams who first pitched the information with the Xbox codename Scarlett. At the time, we were talking about two new Xboxes , which was confirmed in the months that followed by many other sources. For his part, Phil Spencer confirmed that the name "Series X" allowed Microsoft to release versions of the console if necessary.

Releasing two new consoles of different powers would not be very surprising since this is exactly what has already happened on this generation of Xbox with the Xbox One S and Xbox One X which both coexist today. This is also what has been done in the field of telephony for many years with a powerful flagship, and a lighter version at a more affordable price.

Xbox Series S (Lockhart): Xbox for the Cloud?

The equivalent of today's Xbox One S would be codenamed Xbox Lockhart. It would therefore be the little sister, a little less powerful because the rumors speak of a similar CPU, but a GPU (graphics processor) of about 4 Teraflops and 12 GB of GDDR6 memory.

This new Xbox, a little less powerful than its big sister, would allow Microsoft to approach the market with a cheaper price than the Xbox Series X. However, we doubt that it is only dedicated to streaming with xCloud .

Content + Community + xCloud = <3

The three pillars of the video game vision at Microsoft are Content, Community and Cloud, as Phil Spencer said last December . A big effort has been put into the content with the acquisition of several studios, but also the establishment of Xbox Game Pass , a catalog of more than 200 games accessible by subscription. And it is probably not over yet since other rumors of studio buyouts are insistent and Phil Spencer has never hidden his desire to go further.

The community, Microsoft has already had it for a very long time with Xbox Live and its 64 million players at the end of January. With the takeover of Mixer (formerly Beam) in 2016, Microsoft also set foot in the field of game streaming with a technical robustness that has never ceased to be proven, despite the dominance of Twitch.

The goal of the Xbox team has been repeated several times: to reach the 2 billion players in the world.
The Cloud is the last of the three bricks, and the one that has yet to show its capabilities in the field of video games. Because in the field of tech, Microsoft's cloud, Azure, has long been renowned. In 2018, Microsoft cloud revenues generated $ 11 billion, behind AWS (Amazon) and its 25 billion, but ahead of Google Cloud Platform and its 4 billion.

Google has officially entered the cloud gaming race with the announcement of Google Stadia , a streaming video game service without a console, which is currently struggling to take off.

At Microsoft, the project is codenamed xCloud and has been in beta for many months already. The goal of the Xbox team has been repeated several times: to reach the 2 billion players in the world, no matter where they are or what they play on. In line of sight: the possibility of playing Xbox games on your mobile, the screen you have all the time in your pocket. It remains to be seen how this service will integrate with future Xbox Series.

xCloud is not the definitive name of the service and its official deployment to the general public is scheduled for September

For me it may be the first time that I do not buy a Day one console from microsoft and that I take only the console from Sony, since the "exclusives" of microsoft all come out on pc I do not have the utility of the console. Afterwards, I can't wait to see their games!
