Emma Review: The Wise Are Deceived by Wise

Jean Austin's classic adaptations of "Sense and Sensibility" and "Pride and Prejudice" have a diehard following. The film is elegant and humorous, but it is also sharp and satirical about the affectation of the British aristocracy and its efforts to maintain the stability of wealth and class through marriage.

In 19th century England, marriage was about matching family background and class, and Emma's mismatching behavior seemed to be a kind help, but it was highly risky, indicating that love in the conservative era was not her own, even if she wanted to climb up, she had to be afraid of being exposed. Emma, on the other hand, manipulates other people's love, with her eyes on top of her head and many blind spots.
