Facebook is planning to get into the hardware business. This is a demonstration of how it will get into the business. It has developed a new video chat device. The name of the device is Portal. It helps you stay in touch with friends through video chat and many other unknown features.
The device will compete with other devices, particularly amazon's Echo Show and other echo-based devices. It will have some interesting features, such as facial recognition. With this new feature, the device will recognize the face and then connect the device directly to your Facebook device. But it will be on an individual basis. For now, though, Facebook USES the facial recognition feature to detect the faces of users in the photos they've tagged.
Facebook has recently signed various contracts with SONY and universal music group. It is now clear that the device will also be used for streaming on Spotify and Netflix. So, it's basically like a video phone.
As for its release, the report says most of it will be available in May at a price of $499.
