Getting back from a misstep has never been easy. Not only do you have to do some real work on yourself to understand your mistakes, but you also have to convince your audience of this awareness and the contribution made. After its catastrophic release in 2010, Final Fantasy XIV had a lot of work to do. Is Realm Reborn really the announced renewal?

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Review

Many of you remember Square Enix's official apology for the more than controversial release of Final Fantasy XIV. A phenomenon quite rare in the profession to be reported, especially since it was followed by a radical change in production team. After three years of hard work, betas and player feedback, A Realm Reborn has hit the shelves in ...the most complete shambles. Indeed, Square Enix had obviously not expected the crowds (yet predictable with regard to pre-orders) and it was sometimes impossible to connect to the servers for several hours. However, if I am talking about this here, it is mainly to tell you that this element is not taken into account in the test. Not only was this an ephemeral problem (largely fixed by the September 4 update), but it also did not influence the intrinsic qualities of the game.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Review: SECOND BIRTH

The storyline develops throughout the adventureFirst of all, let's start with the story. Indeed, A Realm Reborn is not content to be a redesigned version of FF XIV, but is rather the result. Five years after the catastrophe which saw Bahamut come out of his Dalamud prison to shave practically all of Eorzea, you wake up from the sleep in which you had been plunged to survive this cataclysm. You therefore discover a world that has rebuilt without you, and your hibernation period is a good pretext for a long tutorial to which we will return. This smooth start is told to you with the help of numerous cutscenes, a constant throughout the adventure. Indeed, the main story of A Realm Reborn is very scripted, always a good point in the world of MMORPGs.By the way, know that your choice among the five races (Miqo'te, Roegadyn, Hyur, Lalafell and Elézen) will have no impact on the adventure. It must be said that the main frame is rather strict and differs only very slightly for each person depending on the city in which you start, which itself depends on the class you have chosen from the eight proposed at the outset (Archer, Pugilist, Master of Hast, Marauder, Gladiator, Elementalist, Occultist and Arcanist).

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Review TEACH ME TO PLAY

Following the thread of your own guild will unlock useful weapons and skills. The beginning of the adventure looks like a kind of great tutorial. As often in genre games, you are sent from one NPC to another to learn the basics. Besides, it will take an hour before you hit your first monster if you follow the normal thread (you can deviate from the main quest at any time). Regularly, you can also advance a series of quests corresponding to your class, and which lead you to beat a boss (sometimes accompanied by other enemies) in a solo instance.

The advantage is that the rewards of these quests are rather generous in specific equipment, even in dedicated skills. However, we must admit that the thread of your evolution is somewhat tedious and that we would have liked that certain elements are unlocked faster. The possibility of developing another class at level 10, the dungeons at level 15, the chocobo at level 20 or even the jobs at level 30, are hours of play during which, casually, the real excitement generated by a real feeling of progress does not completely hide a feeling of repetitive questing. We will come back to these different elements later.
