Grayhound is the highly expected streaming movie to watch since the pandemic outbreak this year. Although it was watched online, the Grayhound movie was still a little exciting. The plot of the entire movie can be as simple as a one-line summary: the destroyer captain played by Tom Hanks commanded the Grayhound, led the merchant ship across the North Atlantic, and broke through blockade of U-shaped submarines of Germany without air support for more than 50 hours.

The theme of World War II always makes the audience full of expectations, especially with the grand battle screen, it is easy to become the guarantee of the box office. However, the two recent World War II movies Midway and Grayhound are not very ideal. It is still a little worse than movies Saving Private Ryan, U571, Enemy at the Gates. This is not a change in the taste of the audience, but there are indeed shortcomings in the plot.

There are many historical memories and monographs about the Atlantic escort and the German wolf pack during World War II. To sum up, it is the word "tragic". Especially in the early days of the war, the loss of the Allied transport fleet lacking escort experience and equipment was very large. A merchant ship was dragged by the sea wolf pack into the dark and icy North Atlantic abyss. The cruelty of the war and the difficulties of the anti-fascist war are all in it.

The keynote of the Grayhound movie should be "tragic and difficult", but the film obviously weakened this keynote, directly focusing on the wise escort captain who escorted for the first time. Tom Hanks' performance is also very stylized.

Secondly, it is the massive use of CG special effects. This technology was indeed very new and amazing when it first came out, but it is now clearly flooded. Although the details of many realistic style movies are dazzling, they lack texture and are not grounded. The most charming light and shadow effects of the movie art and the acting tension of the actors are all weakened.

Finally, the performance of Tom Hanks in Grayhound is obviously not as good as that of Saving Private Ryan. Global audience will not forget captain Miller who was mentally exhausted, hands shaking, still trying to bring a miscellaneous team into the enemy and finally defended the bridge and died in the battlefield.
