Rockstar took its time to refine Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V) , and the least we can say is that these 5 years of gestation will have paid off, since it is the third best-selling video game in history, behind Tetris and Minecraft . And still, this third place is very relative knowing that Minecraft is free-to-play in China and that the score of Tetris takes into account the multiple iterations that could have known the game of Alekseï Pajitnov, originally released in 1984 on Eletronika 60 .

We are in the middle of the “tax season” announcements and that of Take Two is an opportunity to recall that the publisher has serious assets in its portfolio. Even better, their latest releases of each license sold better than the previous one. Borderlands 3 , for example, sold 10 million copies, 50% better than Borderlands 2 over the same period. In a similar vein, NBA 2K20 sold 33% more units than last year's episode.

Another heavyweight in their catalog, Red Dead Redemption 2 , which has totaled 31 million sales since its release at the end of 2018. To return to the Gran Theft Auto franchise, the latter totals 325 million games sold worldwide since first episode released in 1997. Thus, GTA V represents 40% of the franchise's sales, an impressive number. Add to that the revenue generated by the online modes of GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2, plus the flourishing revenue from NBA 2K microtransactions, and you get an editor in excellent financial health.
All that remains is to wish the developers that these repeated successes rhyme with the sharing policy and the end of the crunch culture. Like what, we can be in May and find ourselves believing in Santa Claus.
