Samsung and LG announced the suspension of LCD production, why?

With the rise of flexible screen technologies such as OLED, LCD screens have been greatly impacted. Especially in the field of small screens such as mobile phones, OLED has occupied an absolute advantage and has become the first choice for consumers. Recently, some South Korean companies including Samsung and LG announced their withdrawal from LCD production, which also proves the development trend of the industry.

In response to this problem, TCL founder and chairman Li Dongsheng gave his views in the interview. He said that the reasons for the withdrawal of the two companies, the epidemic is only an incentive, more from the perspective of global industrial structure adjustment. These South Korean companies are not withdrawing from the semiconductor display industry, they will focus more on flexible display product technology, AMOLED and OLED.


Samsung has confirmed that it will close all its LCD panel factories during the year. At present, the major share of the global LCD panel has been occupied by Chinese manufacturers, including BOE, Huaxing Optoelectronics (a subsidiary of TCL Holdings) and so on. Many enterprises have achieved a dominant position in the LCD industry, but they have to face greater competitive pressure and challenges in small and medium screens. In the small and medium-sized field, including OLED and the next generation of new display technology, there will be a round of battle.
