Samsung to Begin Trial Production of 115-inch RGB MicroLED TV

According to reports, Samsung is preparing to start trial production of its 115-inch RGB MicroLED TV. Positioned as a premium upgrade over Samsung’s Neo QLED TVs (which use MiniLED-backlit LCD panels), this model carries the "MicroLED" branding despite not being self-emissive. Technically, it’s an RGB MiniLED-LCD TV.

Why "RGB"?
The "RGB" label comes from its innovative backlight design. Instead of using traditional white LEDs (which combine blue LEDs with yellow phosphors), this TV employs separate red (R), green (G), and blue (B) MiniLEDs as its light source.

Key Advantage: Superior Color Purity
Standard white LEDs emit mixed-wavelength light, which loses color purity after passing through the panel’s color filters. In contrast, RGB LEDs emit pure wavelengths, preserving vibrant colors even after filtration.

No Quantum Dots Needed
Unlike QLED TVs (which rely on quantum dot layers), this RGB MicroLED TV skips the QD tech entirely. Since RGB LEDs already deliver excellent color accuracy, adding quantum dots would be redundant.

More Affordable Than True MicroLED
Samsung showcased 75-inch, 85-inch, and 98-inch models of this series at CES earlier this year. The company emphasizes that RGB MicroLED TVs offer a cost-effective alternative to pricier self-emissive MicroLED displays while still targeting the high-end market.
