So, I snagged this 82-inch Samsung TV back in April for my MANCAVE, and man, it’s a game changer! I also grabbed a Klipsch 7.1 speaker setup and an Onkyo 777 receiver to make it all pop. At first, I was pulling my hair out trying to get the TV to link up with the receiver—total headache! Plus, the One Connect box only had 4 HDMI inputs, and my receiver has like 8, which was super annoying.

After some back and forth with Samsung, they sent me a new One Connect, and it worked for like 2 days before going kaput again. So, they sent a tech out, and now it’s finally up and running. And let me tell you, the picture? Absolutely AMAZING. 4K looks so good on this thing!

Now that the One Connect is hooked up directly to my receiver, I can use all those HDMI inputs on the Onkyo. I'm really stoked about this purchase. Oh, and Samsung has this cool feature where they can remotely connect to your TV for diagnostics, which is pretty neat. Overall, I’m a happy camper!

Apparently, Amazon only supports HDR on Samsung’s 2016 models, which is super weird since both companies are all in on HDR10+. I reached out to Amazon support, and all they could offer was a sorry-not-sorry vibe without any real answers.

Turns out, you can’t use that feature because the OneConnect box is just not compatible, and it feels like Samsung support doesn’t even want to own up to it.

So here’s the deal: if you want to use an external receiver that supports ARC, you’ll need to plug all your devices into the receiver itself, not the OneConnect. This way, you can enjoy the audio features. But here’s the kicker – you won’t be able to send audio from the TV’s built-in apps back to your receiver. Basically, the ARC connection on your receiver should go to the OneConnect, but that only sends video (and audio) back to the TV, leaving you high and dry on the audio front.

All that means you’re basically tossing over $100 for a device that ends up being pretty useless in this setup. Plus, if you want the convenience of using a single remote, you’ll need to shell out more cash for a universal remote. Oh, and just so you know, there’s a TOSLINK connection on the OneConnect, but that doesn’t support the newest surround sound formats either – something Samsung support seems to be clueless about.

And if you’re also looking to hardwire your network, good luck – there’s no NIC port on the OneConnect. You’ll have to run another cable through the wall if you’ve got it mounted.

To get audio from the apps to your receiver, you’ve got two options: either use the TOSLINK and give up on that enhanced audio, or grab a separate device like a Roku or a new Blu-ray player with built-in apps and connect that to your receiver. Then you can send the video back to the TV through ARC.

So if you’ve got an external AVR ARC receiver, do yourself a favor and skip this TV. You’ll just be throwing money at something that doesn’t really help you out. Honestly, Samsung needs to step up and fix this for users who already have the TV and make a proper OneConnect box that actually works.
