Battles are an integral part of the life of an adventurer like Link. If there is nothing too exotic compared to previous 3D episodes, the BOTW combat system still offers some new features and subtleties that will need to be mastered in order to avoid repeated game over .

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild walkthrough- Mastering Combat Skills
  • Critical hits and weapon throw: The shortest way to shorten a fight will often be to attempt critical damage. The most effective way is to aim the head of the enemy with the bow. A well placed arrow will cause a critic who, failing to kill the enemy with a single shot, can at least offload him with a good handful of hit points and sometimes his weapons, but also ring him for a few moments. By holding down and releasing the R button, Link can also throw the handgun. If the weapon hits an enemy, it will count as a critic. You can also make a double criticism by throwing a fragile weapon or about to break in the face of an opponent. It is therefore necessary to know how to use the weapon throw sparingly, even if it remains a good way to shorten a fight by returning to the enemies their own weapons.

  • Stealth approach / stealth attack: Discretion can be useful in order to quickly eliminate enemies from an outpost or an isolated guard. By pressing the stick L, Link will squat and it will be easier to sneak behind an enemy. Do not hesitate to take advantage of the relief and the environment (trees, crates, tall grass, rocks ...) to avoid attracting the attention of your target. Once close enough to an enemy and if Link has not been discovered, a simple press on the Y button (which will appear on the screen) will inflict great damage on the enemy, to the point of killing him immediately. it is not too resistant. Note that the equipment, remedies and dishes inflating your discretion will make it possible to deceive enemies even more easily, to the point of letting you land without fear in their back in parasail to administer a fatal blow to them.

  • Dodge and optimal guard: These two techniques require training and a certain mastery, but will give you a big advantage against the most powerful enemies. By holding the ZL button to lock an opponent, Link will have the ability to dodge enemy attacks by jumping, either sideways or backwards. If the dodge is made a second before the hit hits Link, a slow motion effect is triggered to signal an optimal dodge. For a short period of time, you will have the leisure to launch a series of rapid attacks on the enemy. In the same way but with timingeven tighter, Link will be able to trigger an optimal guard by holding the ZL button and giving a shield at the right time thanks to the A button. The attack will be repelled, which will leave an opening for a rigorous counterattack. This technique is particularly useful on certain fights, in particular in front of the powerful lasers of the Guardians or the attacks of the Lynels.

  • Loaded attack: If connoisseurs of the Zelda series appreciate the famous circular attack, they will be delighted to discover new charged attacks for each of the different types of weapons in the game. By holding Y, the endurance gauge will gradually decrease until 'when the button is released. The more charged the attack, the more devastating it will be. Each loaded attack is different depending on the type of weapon used. One-handed weapons will make a circular attack, two-handed weapons will spin Link before ending up on a powerful ground attack, while spears will trigger a series of quick attacks.

  • Attack jumped: Take height. Whether on a simple jump, from a high point, or even directly in flight thanks to the parasail, it is possible to make a jump attack by pressing the Y button. The power of this dive will be proportional to the height of the attack and will similarly cause a shock wave, but it will also hurt you if you fall too far.

  • Arrows and concentration: It is possible to trigger a slow motion during an aiming at the bow when Link is in the air. This can be done from the screen, by jumping from a mount or a high point, until the exhaustion of your endurance. Convenient to properly adjust your shot and why not trigger an explosive chain reaction. You must learn to master this technique by following the main quest.

  • Observe the environment: Like a hunter who can hunt, you will have to be observant and find the little detail that will make your job easier. Explosive barrel under a torch, balanced rock, beehive near a group of enemies, tree or wooden pole to fell, metal object nearby in the middle of a storm ... There will be plenty of opportunities to use the environment to your advantage .
