TV Series Review: Cynical Suspicion on Defending Jacob

In Newton, a suburb west of Boston known as America's safest city, Laurie and Andy barber's quiet family life is thrown into turmoil when their son, Jacob, is accused of murdering a classmate. The series is an adaptation of American crime novelist William Landay's 2012 best-seller, "Defending Jacob." Defending Jacob just went live in April and its first three episodes (eight episodes in total) has been notable so far during which we hardly know whether Jacob is the murderer or not, and what Jacob is thinking in his mind, so we can only endure the curiosity to feel what Andy and Laurie are going through with the slow rhythm. Even in a country like US where there is a presumption of innocence, there is still a cynical suspicion of gossip, of the casual eye in the cafeteria, of the irresponsible social media chatter of the school children and even of Jacob's fan page. We'll wait and see.

At the end of the novel, I was also not sure who was the real murderer. In the face of sensibility, the solemn fortress constructed by reason fell apart.
