In November of last year, Valerion successfully launched a series of 4K projectors on the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter, raising over $10 million in funds. Today, this startup specializing in high-end projection technology has officially unveiled its highly anticipated flagship product, the VisionMaster Max, at the world's largest consumer tech show—CES 2025. For the first time, the company also showcased its innovative interchangeable lens design.
It is reported that Valerion is a sister brand of AWOL Vision, which has been focusing on producing ultra-short-throw projectors since 2022. To avoid overlapping product lines, AWOL Vision chose to spin off Valerion to concentrate on the long-throw projector market. As early as the IFA 2024 exhibition in Berlin, Valerion's upcoming product line had already made a splash, and the subsequent Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign further propelled the flagship VisionMaster Max into the market. This Kickstarter campaign not only introduced the Plus 2 and Pro models but also unveiled the VisionMaster Max. The campaign was a resounding success, becoming one of the most notable crowdfunding projects on Kickstarter in 2024, and began shipping to backers by the end of the year. Now, at CES 2025, Valerion has officially launched this product in production mode.
The VisionMaster Max largely retains its previous design in terms of specifications, but Valerion has introduced a new feature for CES 2025—the interchangeable lens. According to the company, the VisionMaster Max incorporates innovative dynamic tone mapping technology and an intelligent enhanced black level mode. However, what truly disrupts tradition is its external interchangeable lens design. This patented solution not only extends the projection distance but also significantly increases setup flexibility, allowing users to customize their home theater experience according to personal needs.
It's worth noting that professional-grade projectors, such as those from Epson, often come with interchangeable lenses, but this feature is rare in consumer-grade models. Although details about the interchangeable lens are currently scarce and it won't be put into production in the near future, Valerion has already showcased the VisionMaster Max equipped with this lens at the CES exhibition hall. It is reported that the lens offers a throw ratio of 1.3-2.1:1, compared to the standard lens's 0.9-1.5:1.
Backers on Kickstarter who opted for the Max model will receive the latest version of the projector, but the interchangeable lens will need to be purchased separately once it goes into production. In terms of other specifications, the VisionMaster Max appears to be consistent with the Kickstarter version. Its projection engine can output 4K images ranging from 40 to 300 diagonal inches, with an RGB triple laser light source claimed to achieve 3000 ISO lumens and cover 110% of the BT.2020 color gamut.
Additionally, the Max utilizes AI technology to upscale HD visuals to 4K and includes a feature that "brings IMAX picture standards directly to your home." It also supports Dolby Vision, Active 3D, Filmmaker, and HDR10+ modes. To cater to personalized needs, the device comes with an ISF-certified calibration mode. In terms of contrast, the device achieves 15000:1 (native 4000), while dynamic iris technology provides deeper blacks and sharper details across various lighting conditions. For gamers, the VisionMaster Max's ultra-low input lag (just 4ms, supporting 1080p/240Hz) is undoubtedly a major draw. Furthermore, the device is equipped with a pair of 12-watt speakers, supporting Dolby Audio, DTS:X, and DTS Virtual:X sound effects; it also features built-in Wi-Fi 6e and Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity; and offers three HDMI ports (one with eARC), an Ethernet LAN, and USB inputs.
Currently, the Valerion VisionMaster Max triple laser 4K projector is officially available in stock, priced at $3,999 (approximately RMB 29,319). The interchangeable lens will become an optional add-on once it goes into production, but the exact release date and price have yet to be determined.
