Did LCD TV panel shipments rise 11.5% YoY in Q1?

May 12 Update – Market research firm RUNTO reports that global large-size LCD TV panel shipments reached 63 million units in Q1 2025, marking an 11.5% year-over-year (YoY) increase and a 4.8% quarter-over-quarter (QoQ) rise.

The total shipment area for LCD TV panels hit 50.3 million square feet in Q1, up 13.8% YoY and 3.4% QoQ. The average panel size was 49.5 inches, growing 0.2 inches YoY but dipping 0.4 inches from the previous quarter. Overall, the average shipment size is expected to fluctuate around 50 inches in the short term, with a long-term upward trend.

The report highlights three key trends in Q1 2025:
1. Strategy-driven market: Production capacity utilization remained around 85%, significantly higher than last year.
2. Gradual price increases: Small/medium-sized panels rose by $1/month on average, while large panels increased by $2/month.
3. Growing demand for extra-large sizes:

- 75-inch panel shipments hit ~4.5 million units, up 37.9% YoY.
- 75+ inch panels reached ~2.5 million units, surging 60.8% YoY.
- 98-inch and larger "giant screens" saw combined shipments of ~400,000 units, skyrocketing 63.8% YoY.
