As the world continues to fight against the new coronavirus pandemic, people need masks and have to wear masks even though they don't like it. Although wearing masks bring us inconvenience, there are some clever tech companies making innovations with masks to change our life. For example, the Japanese startup Donut Robotics has developed a method to turn ubiquitous masks into the latest gadgets. This mask called c-mask is not designed to be worn alone.

User needs to place the c-mask on top of a normal mask. Connected to mobile phones via Bluetooth, users can dictate messages or make calls. The system can also translate speech into different languages, which is the function Donut originally developed for its Cinnamon robot. The translation function requires a subscription.

Another feature of the c-mask is that it can be issued from mobile phones your voice. This concept of digital speakers can come in handy in classrooms or conference rooms, because in these places, you must keep a certain distance from the person you speak to.

Donut will soon start pre-order in Japan and c-mask will cost about US$40. The company expects to ship it later this year. Customers in other parts of the world will have to wait. What do you think of the c-mask? Would you buy it?
