JBL Synthesis adding everything but the kitchen sink - thoughts on the new lineup?

So JBL Synthesis just dropped a whole bunch of new stuff. Looks like they're covering just about every box you'd need for a dedicated theater build: in-walls, on-walls, a sub, two processors, and even a receiver. That's a pretty serious expansion for a line that usually stays more boutique. I'm curious if this means they're trying to pull in more custom integrators or just going after the high-end DIY crowd who want a full JBL ecosystem.

The processors and receiver are the part that grabs me most. Synthesis has always been about system-level tuning and DSP, so I wonder if these new units bring something unique to the table in terms of room correction or crossovers versus what you can get from a separate Trinnov or StormAudio. On the speaker side, I'd want to see sensitivity and impedance specs before getting excited - those in-walls need to play nice with the amplification, especially if you're running a big Atmos setup.

That said, this kind of expansion usually means higher prices across the board. JBL Synthesis was never cheap, and adding more models doesn't scream "budget friendly." I'd be surprised if any of this comes in under five figures for a full system. For the money, you could piece together something from Ascend Acoustics or even Revel with a dedicated processor and get comparable performance.

Anyone here ever heard a full Synthesis setup? Is the system tuning worth the premium over mixing and matching gear?

One big caveat: those in-walls demand a deep enough stud bay—mine were too shallow, and I had to go with on-walls instead. Check your framing specs before falling for the gloss.

Yeah, but I’d take the sensitivity ratings with a grain of salt until they’re measured third-party. Marketing numbers often don’t match real-world performance, especially on in-walls.
