In the context of Microsoft's 22-year history, aside from the holiday shopping season, this quarter's Xbox revenue sets a new record for a single quarter, surpassing any previous first-quarter earnings.

According to information found in Microsoft's 10-Q filing with the SEC, the boost in revenue for the Xbox gaming division can be largely attributed to content and services, showing a 9% year-on-year increase. It's important to note that the revenue from Activision Blizzard is not yet accounted for in Xbox's financial data. When it is included, it's expected to contribute an additional $1 to $2 billion to the quarterly earnings.

A summary of the Xbox gaming division's revenue situation can be provided as follows:

  1. Gaming Revenue Grows by 9% (increasing by 8% when adjusted for fixed exchange rates).
  2. Xbox Content and Services Revenue Sees a 13% Increase (increasing by 12% when adjusted for fixed exchange rates), driven by first-party content and the growth of Xbox Game Pass.
  3. Xbox Hardware Revenue Declines by 7%.
These statistics signify a robust performance from Microsoft's Xbox division, as the growth in content and services showcases the increasing popularity of their gaming offerings. With the impending integration of Activision Blizzard, the outlook for the coming quarters appears promising, indicating that the gaming industry continues to be a significant source of revenue and growth for Microsoft.
