I am making are making a home theatre for my friend and my friend has decided to fit a 120" inch screen in 9.5' wide room, thus the sides of room are only 2" from the screen and the ceiling is about a 1', the projecrtor is a 400$ one with around 1200 lumens thus not very bright, we dont need to fit any speakers as he plans to mostly listen on headphones or a soundbar, however he is open to covering up the walls to prevent reflections as its currently light blue

What material should we cover the walls with, black matte paint or is there any fabric that is good for such purposes ?, is it better to save up money on https://omegle.onl/ vshare screen and get 100" screen?

also theoretically which would look better, 100" screen with 1' gap on sides with light wall or 120' with only 2" gap but dark or even black walls/ fabric

do those 3" velevet black borders on screen help if we plan to mount it so close to the wall, or is edgeless fine ?

For the home theater setup in a 9.5' wide room with a 120" screen and a projector with 1200 lumens, here are some recommendations:

  1. Wall Covering Material: To prevent reflections and improve image contrast, it's best to cover the walls with a dark, non-reflective material. Black matte paint is a good option, as it absorbs light and reduces reflections. Alternatively, you can use specialized acoustic fabric panels or curtains in dark colors to absorb sound and improve acoustics while also reducing reflections.
  2. Screen Size: Considering the limited space in the room, a 100" screen may be more suitable to ensure a comfortable viewing experience without the screen being too overwhelming or close to the walls. However, if your friend prefers a larger screen and is willing to cover the walls with dark material to reduce reflections, the 120" screen can work well too.
  3. Wall Color and Screen Size: In terms of aesthetics and image quality, a 120" screen with dark or black walls/fabric may provide a more immersive and cinematic experience. The larger screen size can make the viewing experience more engaging, even with minimal gaps on the sides. However, a 100" screen with lighter walls may still offer good image quality and a comfortable viewing experience, especially if the room is small.
  4. Screen Borders: Velvet black borders around the screen can enhance the perceived image contrast and provide a more professional look to the setup. Even with the projector mounted close to the wall, the borders can help define the edges of the screen and improve the overall visual appeal. However, if the screen is edgeless, it can still provide a seamless viewing experience, especially with proper calibration and setup.
Ultimately, the choice between screen size, wall covering material, and screen borders depends on your friend's preferences, budget, and the desired viewing experience. Experimenting with different setups and configurations can help determine the optimal solution for the home theater room.
