Penny Dreadful: City of Angels must be Veiled

The biggest feature of the Penny Dreadful three seasons is the sense of mystery. The heroine is the reincarnation of an evil god, but she doesn't know and has been living in the state of "human". The hero is a werewolf, but also has another unknown identity, the hound of god. God is something that must be veiled, something that is beyond human, invisible.

The first three seasons featured an Egyptian goddess, Amunet. She is the invisible goddess, representing all the invisible things in the world. This is the topic of Penny Dreadful. These angles, gods wore veils is written into a book called Penny Dreadful cheap horror magazine, you can spend a penny to see it. The Mexican version, on the other hand, begins by destroying the mystery. Two goddesses, standing in a field of rape, have a seemingly meaningful but actually very shallow conversation, and then the hero is pushed away by a dead angel.

Penny Dreadful: City of Angels must be Veiled

If, without that opening, the first episode only featured the handprint on the hero's chest, I'd think: is that a handprint? How come there are handprints? Who left the fingerprints? What happened? Then, in the right place in the following episodes, shake out the dead angel. But it doesn't.

For now, the new Penny Dreadful lacks texture. It's both a title for Penny Dreadful and a story about the American gods, but the essence of both is missing. I sincerely hope it will be better in the future.
