When new consoles arrive, several criteria come into play at the time of purchase. If for many games, the price and the choice of friends generally define in priority which machine to turn to, the controller also plays an essential role in the choice of its new console. Today, we will see together the differences between the PS5 controller vs Xbox Series X.

Design and handling

Xbox Series X controller: classic but still effective!

Microsoft announced the Xbox Series X and its new controller last November at the Games Awards. Unsurprisingly, it looks a lot like the Xbox One controller, widely recognized as the best controller on the market. It therefore seems logical to see this new iteration take over the foundations of its big sister.

This new controller is slightly smaller so that the hands can cover 98% of its surface against 95% with the current Xbox One controllers. With the reduced size, Microsoft says it can improve the accessibility and comfort of hundreds of millions more without negatively affecting the experience of those with larger hands.

Microsoft is also introducing a new button dedicated to sharing captures and game extracts on its new controller. Phil Spencer clarified this choice during the presentation of the controller:

We have a “Share” button. We have heard the feedback. We're not the first to make a “Share” button, so we're not going to say that we invented it, but we've heard feedback that sharing is a big part of the gaming experience now for many players, so I wanted a physical button for that.
DualSense controller: a welcome facelift

On the Sony side, the DualSense controller undoubtedly marks a new stage. No more DualShock and its almost similar versions between the last 3 generations.

The design of this new controller caused a sensation on the canvas with its two-tone appearance and its more imposing shape. Indeed, unlike its big sisters, the PlayStation 5 controller should facilitate its handling by a wider range of players who have often criticized the compactness of the DualShock 3 and 4 models.

The Japanese brand still wants to keep what it has undertaken with the Dualshock 4 and continues to offer a touchpad as well as LEDs placed this time on either side of it.

The Share button has not disappeared, it has only been renamed “CREATE” and will always allow you to create and share your best moments of play with your friends.

With CREATE, we are once again the first to offer players new ways to create epic gameplay content to share with the world, or just for fun.
