In late 2017, BenQ released a 4K home projector, the W1700. Today, we have got this product, in order to give you a deeper understanding of its performance, let's take a look at this product.

Design

BenQ W7100

The exterior design of BenQ W1700 is very simple and looks fashionable. You wouldn't expect a projector that supports 4K, HDR and 3D displays. The shape of BenQ W1700 is relatively round, and the black and white collocation of universal color matching can also be integrated into various household styles, without obvious sense of harmony. Such appearance has been enough to show that this projector is more suitable for putting in the living room.

Specs

In terms of chips, BenQ W1700 is the first 4K HDR color quasi projector equipped with T.I. 's latest 0.47 inch DLP DMD chip. According to t.i. Texas instruments, other 4K models with a 0.65-inch chip can be smaller in size while maintaining the same resolution.

In principle, the chip is not much different from a conventional 4K projector. The same XPR technology enables each micro mirror to be switched more than 9,000 times in one second, thus generating two completely different and unique pixels in each frame on the screen, so as to achieve full 4K UHD resolution.

Compared with DLP470TE and DLP470TP, DLP DMD chips are weaker in lumen, but their small size and lumen performance, which is not too low, have reached a balance. Specifically, BenQ W1700 has a brightness of 2200ANSI lumen, a resolution of 3840×2160 pixels, a native 16:9 display, and a contrast of 10000:1. It supports HDR and 3D functions.

Picture Quality

In terms of light bulb color, as a series of color quasi-projectors, W1700 is equipped with a re-optimized 6-stage (RGBRGB) 6-speed color wheel to minimize the influence of common rainbow patterns in DLP models. In terms of color gambit, through the combination of the CinematicColor professional color adjustment and CinemaMaster Video+ movie master Video enhancement technology, over 96% color gambit coverage of rec.709 can be achieved, and the actual measurement also supports the dci-p3 and bt.2020 color gambit standards. Generally speaking, such parameter performance is enough for ordinary consumers to meet the daily use needs of home projectors.

For the projector, the discretion of the lumen is vital, perhaps many people will to only 2200 lumens projector question, worry about limited usage scenarios, through the actual test, the author found that in the case of a sunny noon, BenQ W1700 projected picture is on a white wall will be affected by a lot of, but under the environment with conventional fluorescent lamp light of dusk, BenQ W1700 display effect is enough to ensure, that is to say, noon the sunny, don't need to draw the shading thick curtain, only need regular curtain, can guarantee the W1700 display effect, This is enough to meet the daily needs of the average user.

Conclusion

In general, BenQ W1700 still brought us enough surprises. 4K ultra-hd resolution, 3D playback and accurate color adjustment all let us see the strength of the first-tier manufacturers.
