Samsung One Connect universal remote won't control Anthem or Mcintosh

I just learned about my Samsung Frame tv's universal remote function where it should turn the default Samsung (white curved) remote into a universal remote. However, when I go through the process of trying to make it control my Mcintosh MA7900 or my Anthem AVM70, nothing works. It cycles through the codes asking if it turned on/off my units and it never works.

Am I doing something wrong?

More info: I'm not happy with how HDMI ARC cuts out, volume lags, etc. So I want to use Optical out AND use the original TV remote. My understanding is that Samsung tvs are supposed act as universal remotes and control volume of external sources (soundbars, processors, etc.).

In the TV's menu, when I select "Universal Remote" and go through the set up process, my devices are found, but they have yet to work. So I believe samsung does intend to be able to control my devices via remote codes but it's been a failure thus far.
