Sony's new 8K TV will be cheaper than last year's model, but the price is still higher than our expectation. Now Sony sells 75-inch and 85-inch Z8H/ZH8 in the United States and Europe pricing at $ 5999.99. Samsung launched its first 8K TV in 2018, and Sony entered this segment with the Z9G (ZG9) last year, and most other TV manufacturers have not yet released 8K TVs.
As part of the 2020 product lineup, Sony will launch 75-inch and 85-inch Z8H (ZH8). The new LCD TV has full array area dimming (FALD), Sony’s X1 Ultimate video processor, HDR support (HDR10, HLG, and Dolby Vision), IMAX Enhanced, and support for Dolby Atmos. They are equipped with an HDMI 2.1 interface and can receive 8K60 and 4K120 inputs from next-generation hosts and players.
Sony also integrated the "Acoustic Multi-Audio" function, which uses a vibrating tweeter to turn the TV's frame into a speaker. The company explained that the purpose of this is to create a more direct sound, as if the sound came from the actors in the video.
Like other Sony TVs, Sony Z8H is also supported by Google’s Android TV platform, with Android 9.0 pre-installed. You can download apps and games from the Google Play store, but although some streaming services offer 4K HDR streaming, 8K content is still missing.
YouTube 8K videos could be played with AV1 hardware decoding. Major streaming services such as Amazon, band Disney+ have not announced plans to provide 8K content. Sony's Z8H in the US and ZH8 in Europe are now available in 75-inch and 85-inch specifications.
