Spotify and YouTube Not Coming to Apple Vision Pro

In a recent announcement, Apple unveiled its Vision Pro headset with support for streaming applications such as Apple TV+, Disney+, and HBO Max, but noticeably absent from the lineup was Netflix. The streaming giant, along with other overseas heavyweights like Spotify and YouTube, has expressed no intention to make its mark on Apple's Vision Pro headset.

A spokesperson from Netflix made it clear that the company has no plans to develop a native app for the Apple Vision Pro, nor does it intend to allow users to run the iPad version on the device. This decision, as stated by the spokesperson, stems from a fundamental lack of interest.

Reports from Bloomberg today suggest that, in addition to Netflix, major overseas streaming applications such as Spotify and YouTube are also reluctant to join the Apple Vision Pro platform. It's worth noting that both Netflix and YouTube have previously developed standalone VR apps for platforms like Meta Quest. The hesitation to join the Vision Pro platform seems to be primarily rooted in a "business perspective."

While Netflix and a few others are holding back, Apple has successfully secured agreements with most streaming service providers. Some platforms are set to release native visionOS applications, while others opt to offer iPad apps for Vision Pro users.

Confirmed streaming platforms supporting Apple Vision Pro include Apple TV+, Disney+, HBO Max, Amazon Prime Video, Paramount+, Peacock, and more. Disney, in particular, has gone the extra mile by promising to showcase certain movies in 3D, aiming to provide Vision Pro wearers with an authentic cinematic experience.

Apple TV, specifically tailored for Vision Pro, not only offers compatibility but also provides exclusive content. The Apple Immersive Video format promises an 8K 180° viewing experience for Vision Pro users. Furthermore, Apple TV+ boasts a library of over 150 3D movies for users to enjoy.

As the streaming landscape evolves, the decision by Netflix, Spotify, and YouTube to abstain from Apple's Vision Pro adds an interesting dimension to the ongoing competition among tech giants. While some streaming giants are onboard, others seem to be strategically evaluating their moves in this immersive entertainment space. The Vision Pro's promise of a cinematic journey could reshape how users experience streaming content in the future.
