Recently, Dolby announced a new feature called Dolby Atmos FlexConnect, which allows users to pair their TV's built-in speakers with other wireless speakers placed around the room. This technology is set to make its debut on TCL TVs in 2024.

Dolby explains that FlexConnect intelligently optimizes sound based on the room's layout and speaker placements. According to the company, this technology will liberate users from sound constraints tied to room size, furniture arrangement, or power outlet locations.

FlexConnect permits speakers to be positioned anywhere within the room and calibrates each speaker to the TV's audio output, tailoring a unique Dolby Atmos configuration for each user's home.

Dolby emphasizes that setup is quick and easy as acoustic mapping is done using the TV's built-in microphone. Prior to performing the audio calibration, these components locate each speaker, ensuring a consistently immersive audio experience from wherever one is positioned in the room.

FlexConnect can fine-tune the audio output of each speaker, including the TV's internal speakers. For instance, if the system detects a pair of speakers in front of the room, it can adjust the audio to have the TV handle most of the dialogue while the speakers take care of the rest of the front soundstage. If there are two speakers positioned behind the room, the TV would manage both dialogue and the sound portion originating from the front of the room.

Dolby's Atmos FlexConnect enhances the potential for a personalized and dynamic audio experience, enabling users to create a surround sound setup unique to their room's acoustics and preferences.
