The Roku Premiere is a compact TV box. It's so small that it doesn't take up any space. The interface of Roku Premiere uses extravagant icons for its various services, and with the remote, you can quickly choose what to watch. The good thing is, it's not too complicated, and it doesn't offer too many unnecessary suggestions.

Having the right user interface gives Roku an edge over things like Chromecast, but it's similar to Amazon's Fire TV Stick 4K because it's easy to get what you want to watch. The remote has a few buttons that take you directly to services, and predictably, these are the most common services you might want to use -- Netflix, Spotify, etc.

Roku keeps making improvements by adding new sections to the main menu. Featured Free shows from TV networks (and the ad-sponsored Roku Channel) that you can stream without needing a cable login. And if you’ve got the voice remote, you can say “show me free comedies” or “show me free action movies” to get a list of content that you won’t have to rent or buy. In general, Roku’s universal search continues to do a superb job in finding the thing you want and the best place to watch it. And it feels more neutral / unbiased than Fire TV, which can go a little heavy on promoting Amazon’s original content.

Roku Premiere is an excellent small streaming media set-top box that provides some of the latest streaming standards, supporting a wide variety of content with excellent performance, and is therefore easy to recommend.

Questions remain about whether you really need this type of set-top box. While users with smaller TVS are likely to benefit from the addition of streaming services offered by Roku (which Express offers at a cheaper price), most 4K HDR TVS will be smart TVS with access to all the services offered by the box.
