After official confirmation from samsung, LG and Vizio that their smart TVS will soon be integrated with support for AirPlay 2, apple has now confirmed that other leading TV makers will offer support for AirPlay and HomeKit technology for their products. As the updated AirPlay 2 page shows, Apple's proprietary media streaming technology AirPlay 2 is about to be used for "popular smart TVS" without mentioning a specific brand.

Apple says you'll be able to send the following items to your airplay2-enabled smart TV. Photos: with just a few clicks, you can send your vacation images, your favorite Photos, albums, and more from the stock Photos app to a compatible Smart TV. Video: movies and shows purchased or rented from iTunes can be streamed from iOS/macOS to smart TVS in 4K HDR. Streaming video from your home clips, YouTube videos and third-party apps (such as Netflix) can also be streamed to your smart TV via AirPlay.

Music: any Music in Apple Music or iTunes can also be sent to Smart TV, including game audio and songs from third-party apps such as Spotify and Pandora. Tap the AirPlay icon on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch or Mac to share these items with your smart TV. AirPlay 2 requires iOS 11.4 or later, Mac or Windows PC with iTunes 12.8 or later, Apple TV with tvOS 11.4 or later, or HomePod with iOS 11.4 or later.

On top of that, these smart TVS will support AirPlay mirroring, so you can wirelessly send everything displayed on an Apple device to a larger screen and bypass the Apple TV entirely. AirPlay 2 currently does not support multi-room video streaming, but you can do the following: send the video to an AirPlay device and then broadcast the audio between multiple AirPlay speakers.

AirPlay 2 requires HomeKit, which means that all airplay-compatible smart TVS are also supported by Apple's connected home platform. As a result, the smart TV powered by Airplay has the advanced multi-room audio capabilities offered by Airplay 2.

Leading TV manufacturers are integrating AirPlay 2 directly into their TVS, so you can now effortlessly share or mirror almost anything from an iOS device or Mac directly to a smart TV with AirPlay 2 enabled. You can even play music on your TV and sync it with other AirPlay 2-compatible speakers anywhere in your home.

Airplay-compatible smart TVS connected to the same wireless network as Apple devices automatically appear in the regular Home app on the iPhone, iPad or Mac, essentially acting as AirPlay 2 speakers that support multi-room audio. Using the handy AirPlay controls in the app, the iPhone's "lock" screen and the contents in the "control center," you can play, pause, fast-forward, rewind and adjust the volume of the TV.

But wait, there's more! The HomeKit integration happens to provide limited support for Siri voice commands related to multi-room and media control. This is primarily used to request that specific shows or movies be shown on smart TVS via AirPlay. Summary: Siri voice commands for multi-room AirPlay 2 audio control. For example, voice commands from an iOS device or Mac (such as "hey Siri, play a game of thrones on my living room TV") will wake up the airplay-compatible smart TV in the living room and automatically start streaming to it.

Siri can also play music on smart TVS. In fact, you'll be able to send audio at once to any combination of AirPlay 2 devices: the smart TV in the living room, another TV in the kids' room, your wife's HomePod in the living room, and those weird AirPlay 2 devices. Compatible speakers you hide in a cave, and AirPlay 2 ensures that they all play audio in perfect sync.
