IPS screen (In-Plane Switching) technology is an LCD panel technology launched by Hitachi in 2001, commonly known as "Super TFT". IPS is to solve the problem of viewing angle by making the molecules of the same apparent length in all directions. And VA liquid crystal is the same as the two mainstream of today's liquid crystal technology.

IPS screen is the surface attached to a layer of the resin film, as people with glasses. IPS screen has a clear and ultra-stable dynamic display effect, depending on its innovative horizontal conversion molecular arrangement, changing the VA soft screen vertical molecular arrangement, and thus has a more robust and stable liquid crystal structure. Not in the superficial sense, the IPS screen is to add a hard protective film on the LCD panel, in order to avoid poking the LCD screen by external hard objects.

Compared with other panel technologies (such as TN panels and VA panels), the special feature of IPS panels is that instead of pre-orienting the liquid crystal molecules into a transmissive mode, they are oriented into an opaque mode. The amount of light transmission is determined by electrodes perpendicular to the direction of orientation of the liquid crystal molecules, and the higher the voltage, the more molecules are twisted, thus enabling precise control of light. It controls only one deflection angle of the IPS LCD panel, and the number of deflected molecules can be nearly proportional to the voltage, thus making the hierarchical control of the panel easier to achieve.

To widen the viewing angle, the basic module of LCD molecules is V-shaped and the LCD molecules are parallel to the panel, and light is easily contained inside the panel, thus there is less light leakage. It is able to perform better in motion pictures and achieve a better contrast ratio.

1. IPS screen advantages


IPS screen technology is currently the world's leading LCD technology. Compared with traditional screen LCD, IPS screen technology LCD response speed is faster and presents a smoother motion picture. It has several advantageous features as follows.

Since IPS screen has a unique molecular horizontal conversion structure, it can reach a viewing angle of 178 degrees from the top, bottom, left and right, without compromising color expression at any angle, almost reaching the limit of LCD technology and basically eliminating the visual "dead angle". At the same time, there is no color drift as in the case of soft screens, and a clear picture can be seen from the side.

The physical structure of the IPS screen is stable and does not have the inevitable residual shadows and flickers when touching the ordinary screen. The 42" IPS screen is 12% larger than the 40" VA screen. This is roughly equivalent to the size of a 5" cell phone screen.

7. IPS screen disadvantages


IPS screen due to the use of horizontal liquid crystal molecular arrangement, increasing the viewing angle while reducing the penetration of light, in order to better display bright colors must increase the luminosity of the backlight, so the phenomenon of light leakage in the IPS screen is extremely common, with the increase in the screen, a large area of the edge of the light leakage problem has been a criticism of IPS. IPS also loses the competitive advantage of high contrast ratio due to this inability to improve the penetration and enhance the practice of backlighting, the general static contrast ratio of IPS is between 2000:1 - 3000:1. However AV screen static contrast ratio can easily reach 5000:1.
