What is the mission of ANSI?

You can see "ANSI lumens" everywhere when you are a big fan of digital products like projector. Are you curious about what the mission of ANSI is at certain moments? Why it's called as ANSI? What does it stand for? What is the purpose of the ANSI? We're gonna discuss about all these questions in this post.

What is ANSI lumens?
In short, ANSI lumens, is the unit invented by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) to represent the light output of projectors and has been widely accepted by all the people across the globe so far.

Professional ANSI Lumens Definition:
ANSI lumens refers to the main technical index of the projector. "Light out" is usually expressed in terms of luminous flux, describing the intensity of visual response generated by the light source in lumens per unit time.

The international standard unit of luminous flux for projectors is ANSI lumens, which is used to measure luminous flux for projectors and developed by the American National Standardization Association. At present, it has been widely accepted by the international community.

What is Projector Brightness?
In short, the brightness is the light from a projector.

Profession Interpretation of Projector Brightness:
Projector Brightness is a metric that defines the brightness of a projector's image. In fact, it is determined by the light output of the projector. But at present, there is no unified standard among all manufacturers around the world. So you can find brightness, illumination, light output and so many different names and various units including lux, lumen, peak white lumen, ANSI lumen and so on in the user manual. In fact, in optical theory, there is a strict definition and unit for the physical quantity representing the brightness and darkness of an object, but in daily use, people often call it brightness.

Summary Tips:
So what I want to tell you here is that when we buy a projector, we only need to use ANSI lumens as a luminance unit. It’s not abnormal when they use other units. Do use ANSI lumens as the standard.
