HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) an all-digital video and sound transmitting interface that can send uncompressed audio and video signals. Your TV with HDMI port can send video and audio signals at the same time, simplifying the installation difficulty of system lines. HDMI version has been through 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4 to 2.0 and 2.1. At present, most TVs use HDMI 2.0. Few high-end TVs use HDMI 2.1.
What's the difference between HDMI 2.0 and 2.1?
HDMI 2.1 supports greater bandwidth than 2.0: increasing from 18Gbps to 48Gbps can better follow the development of UHD TV and display technology.
Many functions supported by the technical specifications of the HDMI 2.1 standard require the use of 48G cables.
The increased bandwidth of the HDMI 2.1 48G cable will be used for video transmission in ultra-high definition resolutions such as 4K120fps, 8K100/120fps, 10K100/120fps and the refresh rate will be increased.
The increased bandwidth also plays a key role in supporting the latest color gamut, such as BT.2020 (Rec. 2020) and 10-bit, 12-bit or even more advanced uncompressed 16-bit color.
Compared with HDMI2.0, the HDMI 2.1 standard adds support for dynamic HDR metadata, allowing content producers to control the color, contrast, and brightness of each frame of image.
If you want to support 8K HDR high dynamics, then you need to use the HDMI 2.1.
Dynamic HDR is not the only feature supported by the HMDI 2.1 standard for gaming applications. HMDI 2.1 also supports the game mode variable refresh rate (GM VRR).
