The price of a large-sized TV has repeatedly broken the price floor, which is much lower than that of a similar-sized monitor. Why can't a big-screen TV act as a monitor?

Why can't a TV set be used as a monitor?

The question of whether or not a TV can replace a monitor has been around for a long time. Because of the same principle in reality, televisions are even cheaper in terms of price. Besides, there are so many TV ports nowadays. However, there are still many differences between the two and it is not recommended to use the TV as a monitor.

Why can't a TV set be used as a monitor?

The color expression style is completely different

Because TV is more inclined to entertainment, so on the color adjustment, more is to please the user eyeball eyeball. For instance present the picture of green plant, TV can optimize colour possibly, make its become colourful green, although a few darker green can be more real, but colourful green more please eyeball undoubtedly. At the same time, the color standard used by the TV and the monitor is completely different. Currently, the color standard used by the monitor is sRGB, while the TV USES rec.709 standard or a few dci-p3 standards.

The display will maximize the display of accurate color, is due to the user's daily needs. Because we use the monitor to edit photos or print, the most real picture effect is needed. If the color deviation is large, the overall effect of the work will be affected. Let's say we print a picture, and it shows a bright red on the TV, and the print turns a dark red. The inconsistencies in the color scheme will eventually make the TV unusable on the desktop.

The grayscale is not in the same range

In addition to the fact that color is not the same standard between the TV and the monitor, the range of gray-scale displays is completely different. Normally, we measure the screen's restoring power on a grey scale between 0 and 256. For professional monitors, due to the need for text or image processing, the display can basically display a grey scale between 0 and 256, that is, the display can all show the 256 order from pure black to pure white. However, TV is not so strict about the reduction ability of grey scale, most of which can only show grey scale between 16 and 235, and those below 16 are all shown in black, while those above 235 are all shown in pure white.

For such differences, it is a disaster not only for users who need to make pictures and pay attention to color expression, but also for ordinary users to some extent. For example, some of the dark and light in the game are missing and you might be ambushed. When looking at photos, because of the loss of detail, so that the photo charm greatly reduced; When making excel and other forms, it may take a lot of effort to see them clearly due to the imprecision of black, white and grey.

The sharpness and sharpness of words on TV are not enough

The basic purpose of TV is to play movies or show game pictures. The common feature is that the pictures are all dynamic. Therefore, in the development of LCD TV, will be optimized for dynamic picture, enhance the definition of dynamic picture, but the side effect is to display static picture is not so good. In fact, the fact that the text on the TV is not clear is not caused by the low resolution, even 4K TV may have such a problem. This is mainly because the image sharpening transition and other problems make the text not clear enough, let a person look more laborious.

The display is on the contrary, its positioning is to design graphics, typography design oriented consumers. The content of their work is basically based on static images, so the display is biased towards static images, so the clarity of the text and the accuracy of color and gray scale will be better. On the whole, the display will be relatively mediocre, the static picture display ability is no doubt, the dynamic picture (playing games, watching movies) can also meet the needs of mainstream consumers.
