Introduction:

Apple is continuously innovating its product lineup, and the upcoming 2024 Apple TV is no exception. While the design is expected to remain largely unchanged, there are exciting upgrades under the hood, including a new A16 chip and potential enhancements to the Wi-Fi capabilities.

Design:

The design of the Apple TV has remained consistent for several years. The 2024 model is not expected to bring significant design changes. It will likely continue the tradition of a sleek, black plastic casing, consistent with the current Apple TV.

New Chip:

The current Apple TV 4K is equipped with the A15 Bionic chip, the same chip found in the iPhone 13 series. However, speculations suggest that the 2024 Apple TV will come with the latest A-series chip.

Apple typically doesn't design dedicated chips for the Apple TV, so it's anticipated that the 2024 Apple TV could feature the A16 chip, the same as the iPhone 14 Pro or the A17 Pro, similar to the iPhone 15 Standard. The A17 Pro, being Apple's first 3-nanometer chip with a 6-core GPU and hardware-accelerated ray tracing, could provide a gaming experience comparable to dedicated gaming consoles. Still, this possibility is less likely due to cost considerations, as Apple may want to keep the Apple TV's price accessible.

Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7:

While there's no official news regarding the Wi-Fi capabilities of the 2024 Apple TV, it's possible that it will feature modern Wi-Fi protocols. The current iPhone 15 Pro models support Wi-Fi 6E, and there are rumors that Apple might adopt Wi-Fi 7 for iPhones in the near future. The 2024 Apple TV is expected to support at least Wi-Fi 6E, offering robust connectivity for streaming and other functions.

Other Connectivity:

The Apple TV comes in Wi-Fi-only and Wi-Fi + Ethernet models, and it's expected that the next-generation model will maintain this approach. We may also see the next "Apple TV" feature Bluetooth 5.3.

As Apple TV continues to serve as a central hub for smart homes, it is likely to provide Thread integration and support for Matter, bolstering its role in home automation.

Release Date:

Apple reportedly plans to release the next-generation Apple TV in the first half of 2024, possibly debuting at a spring event around March or April. Historically, Apple introduced Apple TV 4K models in September 2017, May 2021, and November 2022.

Innovation:

Apple's innovative approach may lead to the introduction of a high-end smart audio device that combines elements of Apple TV, HomePod, and FaceTime camera functionalities. This device could potentially include a camera for video calls, expanding its use beyond just audio. However, Apple's exact release plans for this multifunctional audio device are not yet clear.

These anticipated enhancements signify Apple's commitment to improving its product offerings and providing users with an enhanced and integrated entertainment experience. As Apple continues to push the boundaries of technology, users can look forward to the next evolution of the Apple TV in 2024.
