Recently, Appotronics officially released the latest generation of ALPD 5.0 laser display technology and launched two technology platforms, Pro and Lite. It is understood that ALPD 5.0 laser display technology can reach the maximum color gamut visible to the human eye on the basis of no scattering, low cost, and high efficiency and compactness, and its C-terminal application optical machine will be available in 2023 at the earliest.

According to officials, there are three tiers of gamut standards that are common in the display industry. The first layer is the Rec.709 for most monitors, which represents the standard color gamut in common sense. The second level is DCI-P3, or Hollywood gamut, which is applied to digital film technology. The higher the value, the more accurate the real colors needed for the film picture can be presented. The third layer is Rec.2020, which is proposed for ultra-high-definition TV and covers image parameters such as resolution, frame rate, bit depth, and gamut definition, which is helpful to restore the real world through the three primary color systems and is considered as the color gamut standard of 4K digital display.

In the past, laser display products with Rec.2020 color gamut had high cost and power consumption problems, so it was difficult to popularize them to general consumers, and consumers missed the opportunity to experience the full-color performance of laser display. In addition, the traditional RGB tricolor laser has an insurmountable scattering problem, which further affects the terminal experience.

The upcoming ALPD 5.0 laser display technology, through the light source control matching software algorithm, on the basis of maintaining the original technical advantages of non-speckle-free and low-cost ALPD, greatly improves the color gamut range, which can reach 120% REC.2020, 165% DCI-P3, 210% Rec.709, Meet the requirements of color gamut in 4K standard, can achieve the maximum visible color gamut for human eyes.

At present, Appotronics has applied the technology in many aspects, such as home, theater projection, engineering projection, and vehicle display. It is worth noting that it has launched a number of core micro laser projection products, which has verified that the laser light source +DLP solution is becoming one of the important trends of intelligent projection in the future, and the representative product is the Dangbei Mars Pro laser projector.

Using ALPD fluorescent laser technology, Dangbei Laser Projector Mars Pro breaks through 3200 ANSI brightness and leads the industry into a new "laser era". While improving the color effect, the brightness efficiency is greatly upgraded. The original contrast ratio is more than three times that of ordinary LED projection, and the overall luminous effect is much higher than that of other light sources.

Up to now, Appotronics has introduced four generations of ALPD laser display technology.

ALPD 1.0 laser display technology.jpg

ALPD 1.0 laser display technology: In 2007, Appotronics pioneered the ALPD fluorescence laser display technology route, and applied for the basic patent of ALPD in the United States and China Patent Office; ALPD 1.0 was launched in 2011, and applied to laser wall Mosaic, combining the advantages of fluorescence and blue laser, more concise architecture, integrated fluorescence and filter, fewer devices.

ALPD 2.0 laser display technology.jpg

ALPD 2.0 laser display technology: Developed in 2012, aiming at laser TV products, it has the characteristics of high brightness, visual safety design, and good uniformity of the same optical path.

ALPD 3.0 laser display technology.jpg

ALPD 3.0 laser display technology: Developed in 2015, it mainly adopts red and blue two-color laser + fluorescence technology and is developed for cinemas. The efficiency of the light source is increased by 20% and supports DCI P3 color gamut and 100% color brightness.

ALPD 4.0 laser display technology: Developed in 2018, it adopts fluorescence + three-color laser scheme to support a larger color gamut (color gamut value up to 98.5% of Rec.2020), and the contrast ratio of products with ALPD 4.0 can reach 2500: 1 Far beyond the cinema standard, with higher light efficiency (30% higher than ALPD 3.0 generation product efficiency).

What is the point of this if its still using a single DMD-unit?
Advertised brightness is never achieved, even in inaccurate color modes.
Color temperature is always too high.
Color brightness and overall brightness in color accurate modes is poor, so as the contrast ratio.

Even an Epson LS12000 is worse than its predecessor 5050UB.
