Android TV Box VS Chromecast: What's difference?

Chromecast allows you to stream content from an Android smartphone or Chrome. It does not provide any content by itself and does not need to be subscribed to work. It requires a computer or smartphone to send content to it.

Android TV is a full-featured device, and its applications can be directly connected to the TV. You don't need a computer or smartphone to use it.

Chromecast relies on your smartphone as the source to transfer content to the TV (from which the term "cast" in Chromecast comes from).

On the other hand, for Android TV, you can install Android TV-specific applications on Android TV. This means that applications need to be built and coded specifically for the Android TV platform.

Chromecast requires a spare HDMI port compatible with all smart and non-smart TVs. As far as we know, you can even plug it into an old LCD TV.
