Breezeline quit selling cable TV and handed the video side to DIRECTV

Breezeline has stopped selling traditional cable TV outright. New customers who want video now get a DIRECTV streaming package instead, either through a DIRECTV Gemini box or just by signing into the DIRECTV app on whatever they already own. This isn't a sudden decision either. They began winding the cable tier down back in 2023 and pushed people onto their own internet-delivered Stream TV product, so the DIRECTV deal is the last step rather than the first.

What strikes me is how completely the operator has stepped out of the video business. They aren't building a better guide or fighting for carriage deals anymore, they're a pipe that resells someone else's app. The pitch on the DIRECTV side is 4K streaming, multiview with up to four games on screen at once, a voice remote and unlimited cloud DVR. Multiview and the DVR I believe. The 4K claim I'd want pinned down, because with these packages it usually means a handful of events rather than the whole lineup, and nobody in the announcement said which channels actually carry it.

The part nobody addresses is the existing subscriber sitting on an old set-top with a working QAM feed and a coax run that has never dropped a frame. That person is being moved onto the same broadband they already complain about during storms, and their picture now depends on the connection instead of being separate from it. If you're on a Breezeline cable tier right now, has anyone actually contacted you about the switch, or are you finding out from articles like this one?

Been through this with a different operator. The 4K they advertise turned out to be about six events a month and nothing else. Everything I actually watch is still 720p60 with the bitrate of a phone stream.
