Which 4K HDR TV to choose in 2020? Whether to play on a console, watch TV or movies in 4K, to play on Xbox, PS4, to watch series on a quality TV or to play on future PS5 and Xbox Series X, follow the guide. From inexpensive 4K TV to the best 4K OLED TV on the market, here are our advices and tips to choose the ideal 4K HDR TV, and thus prepare to play in the best possible conditions according to your budget.

Which 4K TV to choose: OLED or LED?

To choose between LED, QLED (which are actually LCD) or OLED technologies, we choose OLED without flinching. OLED screens allow you to have infinite blacks (while they are more or less bluish on the LCD) with sublime colors because each pixel emits its own light, unlike the LCD which relies on a backlighting system. Still, we prefer a very good LCD screen to a bad OLED screen. What is more, the quality of the panel is not the only factor in the purchase of a TV. Its connectors, its motion compensation system, its OS, or even the color fidelity are all criteria to consider when buying a TV. Our comparative guide takes these criteria into account for the different price ranges. Note that some OLED TVs seem to be more affected by marking phenomena, although very rarely irreversible, and occurring only after long hours of exposure, far from the phenomena encountered on plasma screens of the time therefore.

What is more, despite its absolute blacks offering the best dynamics, the OLED is often less powerful than the LCD in terms of brightness, thus perhaps making OLED a product intended first of all for film buffs. So be careful if you swear by an extremely powerful image, as is sometimes necessary in a very bright room. What is the Samsung Quantum Dot screen?

If we focus more often on the quality of the LCD panel and its color pixels, Quantum Dot technology (box or quantum dot in French) is it used to improve the backlighting systems of TVs by catching their drift colorimetric. An LED backlight actually rests today on blue diodes, covered with a phosphorescent substance making it possible to display more or less good white.

The addition of a Quantum Dot filter allows, thanks to the quantum properties of the nanoparticles it contains, to add green and red to the backlight spectrum to obtain a whiter white (OMO obviously knew all about quantum physics) and therefore better controlled and more extensive colorimetry. This technology is used by Samsung on its SUHD range and now QLED, by LG under the same name, by Sony on its Triluminos range, and by other manufacturers such as Philips or TCL. Note that if the OLED was considered by many in recent years as THE technology of the future, the difficulties encountered by manufacturers to control it and reduce its manufacturing cost, associated with the recent progress of QLED screens, leave more and more to think that LED / LCD technology is far from having said its last word.

Which 4K TV size to choose for what distance and recoil (50/55/65 inches)?

It is often said that it takes a few meters between the screen and the eye under penalty of damaging his eyes. But with 4K TVs, the resolution of the images is much finer, which allows you to approach the TV without tiring your eyes. For a full HD 1080p TV, it was advised to be at least 2.5x the diagonal of the screen. For a 4K TV, we go down to around 1.3x. For a 55 inch 4K TV (140cm), we can therefore be 1m80 from the screen. For a 65 inch 4K TV (165cm) you can place yourself 2m15 from the screen. These are recommendations, but the best is still to place yourself at a distance that suits you and does not hurt your eyes or cause you stiff necks.

I would have been tempted by the Samsung 65ks8000 on sale which is more efficient in HDR than the model I already have, but going from a 75 inch to a 65 inch annoys me a lot.

On the other hand, the Philips 55PUS6262 does not have a 10-bit panel as indicated by the site displayspecifications.com. It's an 8 bit + FRC like the Samsung UE55MU6105 for example
