HDD replacement

Gathering dust, I have an OG XB1 with faulty HDD. I have contacted someone regarding a fix, and how much it would cost. The have quoted me, and then proceeded that they would have to use coded software after installing XB1 OS. Is this true? I mean, I'm tech savvy, just not super savvy when it comes to consoles.

you can not just throw in an ordinary HDD into an Xbox like the PlayStation as Xbox uses multiple folder structures you can however upgrade to a 2TB drive with the proper know how which is all in this video below, I changed mine for 2TB drive and it's simple to follow, just a lot of steps.
