Home Theater Projectors - How Many ANSI Lumens Do I Really Need?

Experiencing the thrill of replicating a huge cinema experience right in your living room is a fantastic feeling that will linger for a while. Projectors are frequently used to relive this experience. Besides been used for hosting a movie night with friends, projectors are extremely important in the corporate environment for presentation to a large group of audience.

Picking the favorite option to get the work done is tasking since we have several brands of projectors to choose from; however you might end up spending money on a projector that might satisfy the desired use. Therefore, it is recommended understand basic features like contrast ratio, lumens and resolution to make an informed decision.

What is Projector ANSI LUMENS?

ANSI (American National Standards Institute) is used for measuring the brightness of a projector. The light wave intensity produced by a projector is determined by the lumen rating. So the higher the lumen, the brighter the light wave intensity and the projected screen.

Most projectors nowadays have a lumen range between 500 and 10,000 lumens. Although the lumen is not totally a factor in deciding the size of the image projected; however, a larger image will be brighter since the projector will be placed further away from the screen hence resulting to the production of more lumen.

When making a purchase, make sure you check out for projectors with lumens rating measured in ANSI. Several brands today makes their lumen numbers look higher by using a different lumen standard rating.

How many lumens do I need?

The purpose of use determines the number of projector lumen. The higher the lumen, the higher the cost of purchasing the projector. To avoid wasting cash on buying a projector with way higher lumen than required, you should properly check out the number of lumen required for your task.

Since the purpose of buying the projector is for use as a home theater projector, a projector with at least 800 ANSI lumen is effective in a blacked out cinema room with no light. If the room has a bit of ambient light, a projector with 1500 lumens will be enough.

If the projector will be used to broadcast to a large audience, the projector may need to be kept a longer distance to the screen and will need at least 1500 lumens for a bight output.

Buying a projector with a high ANSI lumen isn't always a guarantee for efficiency but rather consider all factor such as ambient light to make informed decision and cut down on cost.

Not necessarily the higher the lumens the better, you have to take into account other factors that affect the quality of the picture, but also consider the environment in which you use the projector

Be careful to distinguish false brightness ads. Now many projector sellers use different units to indicate brightness, making the brightness of their projectors "look very high", but in fact, the most standard unit is ANSI lumens, like 1500 ANSI lumen is so much different from 1500 lumen.
