How does a firetv stick pair with a remote control?

I prefer to watch TV shows with the firetv box, but the remote doesn't work. I was going to buy a remote control on amazon, but I found that the price of a remote control was about the same as the price of a firetv stick (with a remote control), so I bought the firetv stick. The e remote control is compatible with the firetv stick, but match the remote with the firetv box to use it.

Unfortunately, the firetv box is not working, so use the firetv stick instead. But now I don't know how to say the remote control with the firetv stick, help!

Take the battery off the remote control. Then turn off the TV box and TV and wait 20 seconds. Then connect to the firetv stick. When the device is turned on, insert the battery back into the remote control and press the home button for another 10 seconds.
