In terms of advanced TV technology, it is particularly striking due to its precise lighting and ultra-thin design: OLED. The LG C9 OLED has been on our radar for months and LG gave us a glimpse and bit information. Now, we finally put the C9 OLED into our laboratory for testing. Everything we suspect is true: LG C9 OLED provides unparalleled fusion of excellent media performance, rich features and forward-looking technology. This is the best TV we've ever seen, but also our overall best TV .

LG C9 OLED review: price and availability

LG C9 OLED comes in three sizes, starting from 55 inches and can be expanded up to 77 inches. Our own audit unit is located between the two and is 65 inches high.

Because OLED technology can provide very consistent image quality, we feel very comfortable, and our performance test results are likely to indicate that the image quality of other sizes is similar. And since all three models have the same processing hardware and smart TV capabilities, we are confident to extend our recommendations to other sizes.

LG C9 OLED review: design

LG's OLED TV always provides the best design in the world. The company uses the unique properties of OLED technology to produce a very thin and elegant display. It can peel the panel to the glass panel and a layer of printed OLED pixels. The background is sparkling brushed aluminum and has a gunmetal color.

Without a stand, the LG C9 measures 57 x 32.7 x 1.8 inches. Most of the thickness is at the bottom of the TV, the overall thickness is less than 2 inches, and is equipped with the TV's internal components and speakers. However, the upper half of the TV is 0.1 inches thick. This slim figure makes you stop to stare, even if you have seen dozens of advanced TV designs. LG's only product that transcends wallpaper and curlable design pushes the concept shown on the glass to a more innovative goal.

In comparison, the LCD-based Samsung Q90 measures 57.1 x 32.7 x 1.6 inches, and the top and bottom thicknesses are fairly consistent. This design reduces the burden on most of the same components, thereby reducing the thickness of the TV.

The C9's sitting position is lower than most devices, thanks to its low-swing stand design. The brushed metal stand looks as elegant as the rest of the TV, and forms a slight contrast with the dark surface of the TV cabinet.

The included stand provides a very solid foothold for the ultra-thin TV, and it should weigh 20 pounds itself. The stand uses a single wide and flat foot, centered in the middle of the screen. The stand also extends a few inches backwards, providing a wide base that will not be noticeable when it holds a 65-inch TV. You can use the channel in the stand to tuck the cable into invisible places and minimize the unsightly growl.

LG C9 OLED review: port

Although the design of the C9 has only been slightly improved from previous models, the port selection has brought a major upgrade. All basic connections exist: three USB ports, an RF connector and tuner for the antenna, a composite input for older hardware, and a fiber output for older audio systems.

But the real stars here come from four HDMI ports. They both use HDMI 2.1 and only LG's 2019 model can find it. The new standard will support 4K at 120 Hz, provide a wider channel for dynamic HDR information , and use enhanced audio return channels (eARC) to handle uncompressed audio from sound bars and surround sound systems. The echo channel technology is improved By connecting a cable between the TV and the sound bar, the new version of the can reduce cable clutter.

The new connection standard also supports Quick Media Switching (QMS), which adjusts the resolution and frame rate of the TV to match anything displayed on the screen. If you have ever tried to play a 24 Hz movie on a 60 Hz panel, you may notice that the display becomes black when switching from one content mode to another. QMS eliminates this buffering step so that you can enjoy all media resources on the TV more seamlessly.

Those HDMI 2.1 connections also promise to enhance gaming performance through the automatic low-latency mode (ALLM), which will switch to gaming mode when you feel the console is connected and active. There is also Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support, which allows game hardware to be loose while maintaining buttery smooth movements, and uses techniques similar to AMD FreeSync to eliminate dropped frames.

The Xbox One X has VRR capability, but it can only reach 60 frames per second. However, due to the greater bandwidth of HDMI 2.1, the technology will expand to 120 Hz on future game consoles (such as Sony PS5 and Xbox Series X ) and graphics cards. This makes the LG C9 OLED clearly forward-looking.

The TV without the stand itself weighs 55.6 pounds-you can use the 300 x 200 mm VESA stand to hang the TV on the wall, and the TV with the stand weighs 74.7 pounds. The base can be easily fixed with a screwdriver, but you need to make sure that the TV is placed flat on a safe surface where the stand can be placed. You will also need a second person to help lift the TV, because most 75-pound TV sets are made of glass, and only a few cases prevent the TV from bending and breaking.
