So LG is rolling out a mode where the studio decides how your TV renders their content, starting with Prime Video. On paper this is the same idea as Filmmaker Mode, just handed further up the chain: instead of the set guessing what the director wanted, the people who made the thing send the settings along with it.
I go back and forth on this. The honest case for it is that most people never touch picture settings, and the factory Vivid preset is genuinely awful for anything shot with intent. If a studio profile gets a casual viewer closer to reference than Vivid does, that is a real win for them.
What bugs me is the precedent. My room is not a grading suite. I watch a lot of stuff with a window behind me in the afternoon, and the tone mapping that looks correct in a dark bay is going to look murky here. Filmmaker Mode already has this problem and at least I can leave it off. The question is whether this stays a mode I opt into or quietly becomes the default that overrides what I set.
Also worth asking who actually authors these profiles. A big studio with a real post house, sure. But a lot of streaming catalogue is licensed material where nobody is going back to grade it per-panel.
