This article introduces the technology of Mni LED, Micro LED and OLED, and what's the difference between them.

What is Mini LED?

Mini LED backlight technology is an LED technology with a new backlight design. It thins, miniaturizes and arrays the LED backlight, so that the LED unit is only about 1mm*1mm, and the effect of delicate light control is realized. Compared with traditional LCD screens, MiniLED has many obvious advantages such as high contrast ratio, high brightness and ultra-thinness. That is to say, under the same size screen, the screen displayed by the MiniLED technology is more delicate and the color reproduction is higher.

What is Micro LED?

Micro LED refers to Micro Light-Emitting Diode, which is smaller in size than Mini LED. Micro LED also does not require backlight modules and optical color filters. It uses inorganic materials to form the light-emitting layer, so it is not prone to the common screen burn-in problem on OLEDs. At the same time, the screen transmittance is better than LCD and OLED, and it is more power-saving.

Micro LED is to weld micro light-emitting diodes to a TFT substrate. The volume of each Micro LED is less than 30 nanometers, which is equivalent to 2.07 million pixels in a 1080p screen, and 8.29 million pixels in a 4K screen.

It is characterized by high brightness, high contrast, high definition, strong reliability, fast response time, more energy saving, and lower power consumption than LCD and OLED. The same self-luminous display technology is used, but the brightness of Micro LED is 30% higher than that of OLED, which is suitable for automotive, industrial and military fields.

What is OLED?

OLED refers to Organic Light-Emitting Diode, abbreviated OLED, its main feature is that it can emit light and color independently without backlight modules and color filters.

Compared with LCD, OLED has a simpler structure and higher cost. Apple used OLED for the first time on the iPhone X in 2017, and until 2020, the entire iPhone 12 will use OLED screens.

The advantages of OLED are: self-illumination, no need for components such as backlight modules; thinner and more power-efficient; bendable; wider color gamut, higher brightness, ultra-high contrast, more vivid colors; and low latency.

Its disadvantages are also obvious. The biggest impact is the problem of burn-in and color shift, which is also a common display problem for all OLED screen devices.
